The Wellington Gymkhana Club is located in Wellington, Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, near Coonoor. It sits at an altitude of about 6,000 feet in the hills.  It was originally established to provide recreation for British military personnel stationed in the region. Over time, it opened up for civilians. The club’s foundation can be traced to 1873 — that’s considered the date when a brick pavilion was built. The name “Wellington Gymkhana” was adopted in 1916.

It is an 18-hole hill course. The terrain includes valleys, elevation changes, streams and natural obstacles (bogs, some water), which add to its character and challenge. The scenic setting is notable — lush green Nilgiri hills, mist, views etc. Many holes offer visual appeal, sometimes with risk and reward depending on the lie or elevation.

Given the altitude and terrain, getting from tee to green involves elevation changes; some holes require precise shot-making. For example, some par-3s are over streams, and tees/back of greens may slope. Weather can be a factor — mist, rain (especially during monsoon), cool mornings. Best seasons are generally the milder months.
