In May 1980, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri. R Gundu Rao, personally took the initiative to hand over 125 acres of land in Challaghatta to the Karnataka Golf Association. This land was allocated to establish a golf course of international standards, aiming to boost golf tourism and promote Bangalore as a golfing destination.
The course was designed by renowned Australian golfer and course architect Peter Thomson, known for his minimalist design philosophy that emphasizes the natural landscape. The KGA Golf Course spans over 124 acres and is renowned for its challenging layout and well-maintained greens.
The course features a variety of holes that challenge golfers of all skill levels, with water hazards and strategically placed bunkers adding to the difficulty. Notably, the 7th hole is considered one of the most challenging, with water cutting across the fairway and deep bunkers guarding the landing area and large putting surface. The 8th hole is the signature hole, a par-3 that plays to a green protected by a large lake in front and to the left.
